Translating Captions vs Dubbing the Audio in Minvo

Minvo can translate a clip in two different ways, and they are not the same thing. Translating the captions changes the words on screen. Dubbing changes the voice you hear.

Both live in the same place, so it is easy to pick the wrong one.

Where to find them

1. Open your video in the editor and select the clip you want to translate.
2. In the panel on the right, open the Translate tab.
3. Click Add New Translation.
4. In the Add Translation window, tick Translate captions, Dub Audio, or both.
5. Choose the language and start it.

Translate captions

• Translates the caption text and the clip title into the language you choose.
• The audio is untouched. Your original voice stays exactly as it was recorded.
• Available in more than 60 languages.
• Included on Creator, Pro and Pro+.

Dub Audio

• Replaces the spoken audio with an AI voice speaking your chosen language.
• Applies to one clip at a time, not the whole video, and the clip has to be 5 minutes or shorter.
• The list of dubbing languages is shorter than the caption list. If a language is not offered in the dropdown, we cannot dub into it yet.
• Dubbing is a Pro+ feature, and your first dub is free on every account.

About the free first dub

• It is one free dub per account, not one per video and not one per brand.
• It is spent on whichever clip you dub first, so pick the clip you actually want before you start.
• Once it has been used, the Dub Audio option is only available on Pro+.
• A dub does not come out of your upload minutes.

Good to know

• Ticking Dub Audio on its own does not translate the captions. Tick both if you want translated captions and a translated voice.
• A dub runs in the background. You can keep working, and there is a Cancel link next to it while it runs.
• If a dub fails, nothing is lost and you can start it again. If it keeps failing, contact us and send the link to the clip.
